What Is Date Sugar?

Date powder or date sugar is simply dehydrated dates that are ground into a fine powder.
There are no major processing or property changes done. This allows date powder to be considered “ground dates” on a nutritional label. The exact nutritional content and color changes depending on which variety of dates is used. For our Organic Date Sugar, DATEible uses USDA Certified Organic Deglet Noor dates harvested within miles of our processing facility in North Africa. Most consumers within the United States can find dried dates in the grocery store. These, however, do not compare to the complex taste of a fresh date from North Africa.

We dehydrate the dates and grind them into date powder. The date powder is light in color and can be ground very fine. It is useful as a sugar substitute in most baking, such as cakes, cookies, muffins, breads, pies and pie crusts, crumbles, and nutrition bars. Date Sugar is rapidly becoming more popular as an alternative to highly processed traditional sugars and is approved for the Paleo and Whole 30 diets.

Date Sugar Nutrition

Date Powder has significant amounts of nutrients in it. Potassium, B vitamins, antioxidants and most notably dietary fiber is all present in the powder. One teaspoon contains about 1% of the recommended potassium and 2% of the recommended fiber of a person’s daily need. The glycemic index is also significantly lower than normal sugar registering at 50 GI (as opposed to white sugar at 65 GI).
